10 TRENDS TO UNDERSTAND THE FUTURE OF ARCHITECTURE

When talking about workspaces, we can clearly identify that the traditional monotonous office environment has given way to innovative designs that emphasize in the need for flexible spaces and new technologies to promote a more efficient work ethos.

The basis of these ´new´ offices lies in the combination of functionality and cleverness, using the Architecture and Design to create environments that motivate and help the workforce carry out their tasks in the most effective manner.

Our design team at Lopez Landa has made a compilation of ten examples of some of these workspaces trends.

1. THE USE OF THE AVAILABLE SPACE IS NOT EVERYTHING.

Sometimes a designs says it all, like this example where the meeting room for informal meetings incorporates a swing system. Designed by Duffy London.

2. OFFICES TO INCRESE PRODUCTIVITY.

Facebook went to the source by approaching their employees to understand how they could help them through improvements in their workplace. This came to life at their offices in Palo Alto, California (USA), completely adapted to cover every need.

3. INDUSTRIAL & FUTURISTIC.

The wellbeing of the employes is optimised by creating modern environments installing high quality furniture and finishes that, together with an industrial look and high chromatic contrast offers a very intersting result. Selex Es in Southampton.

4. A GARDEN IN THE OFFICE.

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia (Ljubljana) incorporated a panoramic garden within their offices, mixing nature with the office environment, an emerging trend that has demonstrated the positive impact in employees wellbeing. (See Nature in the Worplace).

5. PERFECT COMBINATIONS.

Great attention to detail is paid to this interior with a modern modular furniture. The minimalist furniture together with the wooden floors and textured carpet tiles achieve a harmonic and warm environment. Office-loft from Movet, Schorndorf (Germany).

6. IF YOU RENT YOUR SPACE, You better impress with yours!

This is what AirBnB must have thought. Their offices in San Francisco (USA) present a selection of ´corners around the world´ where you can find diverse meeting areas that transport you to different countries around the globe.

7. REFURBISHED SPACES.

It is becoming very popular to adapt empty industrial units into office spaces. This environments maintain the industrial character of the building, whilst smoothening the edges by adding certain elements like glazed partition, steel elements and soft furnishing. We love this example at the Medina Turgul DDB offices in Istanbul (Turkey).

8. NOT SUITABLE FOR THE FAINT-HEARTED. Current trends look to draw attention with bold designs with original and innovative ideas. This is the approach of Yandex in their new offices in Moscow (Russia), where the mix of geometrical lines, colours and textures bring an exciting workplace to life.

9. BUSINESS CENTRE VS FUN CENTRE?

Companies like Youtube or Google focus their efforts in improving the creativity levels of their workforces by introducing elements in their offices that defy everything we knew about workspaces; Swimming pools, Gyms, Minigolfs or slides have become a must in some of the most creative offices in the world.

10. NATURAL LIGHT BRINGS THINGS TO LIFE.

AOL´s offices bring the concept of open plan office to a new level. The clever use of high ceilings, maintaining all the structural elements and M&E elements at plain sight, together with the use of natural light throughout and the use of soft colours with high contrast elements give this space la character of its own.
